Agia Pelagia, in the region of Heraklion is a north coast beach resort. Also spelt as Aghia Pelagia it's the perfect beach resort on the Greek Island of Crete. The fishing village and beach resort is just 20km west from the capital of Crete, Heraklion.
It is quieter than some of its neighbouring north coast resorts but this beach resort still offers visitors a wide choice in accommodation, places to eat and drink and brilliant beach experiences.
There is a wide and varied range of accommodation at this beach resort including 5 star luxury hotels, smaller hotels and apartments, studios and rooms to rent.
For family holidays try the all inclusive Blue Bay Resort and Spa which offers excellent value for money. Another great hotel for kids is the Out of the Blue, Capsis Elite Resort. This is a 5 star luxury hotel and offers exceptional service and facilities. Another 5 star luxury hotel is the Sea Side Resort and Spa.
There are also a few budget hotels in Agia Pelagia and a choice of apartments, studios and rooms to rent such as Zorbas Hotel Apartments, Renia Hotel Apartments, Anna Hotel Apartments and Andys Plaza Hotel Apartments.
There is plenty of choice of restaurants who offer great food at value for money prices with genuine Cretan hospitality at this beach resort and fishing village. Fresh fish is always available!
We can recommend both Taverna Zorbas and Taverna Stelios for their sea front location, value for money food and genuine Cretan hospitality. Try the Lamb Kleftiko at Taverna Zorbas and the mixed fish platter at Taverna Stelios.
For a quirky, unusual and different experience try the Home Restaurant. Great food, great atmosphere and equally great service.
And if you fancy a post dinner cocktail head for the Bloom Cocktail Bar. You won't be disappointed.
You're in easy reach of many of the best Crete attractions if you choose this beach resort for your holiday base. You can easily get to many of the
Crete attractions like picturesque Rethymnon, the Rouvas Gorge, the mountain
village of Zaros, the Monastery of Arkadi and the Minoan settlements of
Phaistos and Knossos and the archaeological museum at Heraklion.
There are numerous little bays and coves around the area which makes for interesting snorkelling, sun bathing and swimming opportunities. There is also a Scuba diving centre for the adventurous.
Agia Pelagia bay is a natural protection from the sometimes fierce north winds that can make swimming almost impossible at certain times on the north coast. At the east side lies Ligaria Cove and at the west side you'll find Mononaftis Bay. Because of this protection you rarely get a day when the waters aren't calm in the bay. This makes it ideal for families with children.
Flights to Heraklion Airport make it easy and very quick to get to this fishing village and beach resort but any flights to Chania Airport will mean a longer drive. Also arriving by sea at at Heraklion Port will make getting to this beach resort quicker than arriving the Souda Port at Chania.
